The tachistoscope test is an experimental method in which it is possible to make objects such as symbols, characters, logos or print ads visible for short intervals of any desired length.
Thanks to the elimination of conscious (=rational) perception, it is possible to determine what the first, spontaneous impressions are that a particular perception triggers in a person’s deeper consciousness.
Which questions does the Tachistoscope Test answer?
- Types of impressions
Emotional impressions that are not covered over, concealed or changed by rational processes.
- Dominant elements in perception
Which design elements are recognised first?
- Expressive power
How clear and correct is the perception of the object in question?
- Sufficiency with respect to brand and product identification
What effects do the design details have on brand and product identification?
- Arousal of interest
Do the first impressions also awaken some degree of interest?
